current "state of things" - 11-13-20

It is with a heavy heart that I write this message.  As I watch Nevada County’s COVID numbers increase daily, I can see that the virus has truly crept into our community.  As a person who has a compromised immune system, it has been against my better judgement to continue providing on-site visits, not only out of fear that I would personally get sick, but also that I might get sick asymptomatically and unknowingly pass it on to any number of the six or seven clients I am able to visit per day for on-site assistance.  The infection numbers are growing everywhere, and the science says that mixed company gatherings with people with whom we do not already share a household is one of the riskiest behaviors we can engage in.  It has been a significant challenge to get many of the households and offices I visit to wear masks, and maintaining 6’ of social distancing inside of someone’s home office is an even greater issue.

With all of that said, at this time, Quietech must suspend on-site visits in an effort to protect you, the Quietech staff, myself, and my family.  I know this is inconvenient, and I didn’t make the decision lightly… this will tremendously impact Quietech, and we know it impacts all of you as well.  I am hopeful that in most cases, I will be able to support you via remote support, or you can visit me in the Quietech shop where we have installed protective measures so that we can work together more safely.  I have even made a way that you can book remote support, and Tech Bar appointments, online: https://quietech.appointlet.com/.  In addition, we are working on some increased online educational opportunities to keep your mind engaged and learning during this time.  Stay tuned for more information on that soon!

For computer problems, our shop remains open and available for repairs.  For those of you concerned about COVID safety in our shop, we are taking COVID precautions very seriously.  We have installed plexiglass at every meeting spot in the office.  We have a large air purifier running 24/7.  We wipe down all touch surfaces regularly, disinfect every computer we touch, and wear masks consistently in the office (whether customers are there or not).  In addition, every customer is wearing a mask, no exceptions.  We are making our space as safe as possible for you (and us, as well!) so please don’t hesitate to come see us if the need arises.

Thank you, as always, for your loyal support of our little business.  We are proud to serve the community, and will continue to do so to the best of our availability throughout this global crisis.  Do you have any ideas for how Quietech can better serve you (and our community in general) during this time?  If so, please share them! I love input.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to wear a mask when I come to Quietech?

Yes! Masks are required for your visit to our facility.  Visit the CDC for more info.

When will you be able to resume home visits?

I’m not sure. : ( It depends on the ever-changing situation with COVID.  We will keep you posted as soon as new information comes to light.

What kind of things can you do remotely?

A lot, actually!  I can repair software issues, train you on Word, Excel, Quickbooks, email, etc., look for malware, install programs, and a whole lot more!

What kind of things are harder to do or impossible remotely?

I can’t repair a broken internet connection remotely, nor can I fix network equipment like routers, modems, wireless printers, etc.  BUT! Let’s talk for each individual situation like this, as I never want to pass up the opportunity to help you if I am able!

What is the Tech Bar for?

The Tech Bar is a place where you can learn about your device, receive help/training on little issues, etc.  Some recent things we have helped people with at Tech Bar, for example: creating a new email account, training on how to use a new cell phone, unlocking a Facebook account with a lost password, setting up a password keeper program, merging iCloud photos, Gmail training, help with Quickbooks, and much, much more.
